Don't get caught out by the latest safety EN131 standards: new stock must meet new standards
Posted On: 06-02-2015
Are You Aware of the Latest Changes to the EN131 Ladder Standard?
  • These include an uprated strength test with an increased load (applied horizontally) from 1000N to 1100N.

How Will These Changes Affect You?

  • New stock must meet the New standard.
  • Your current EN131 ladder stock remains valid - as long as it meets the requirements of the EN131 standard and is labelled with an appropriate manufacturer’s licence number under a third party Quality Management Scheme such as TUV or BSi

How Can You be Sure That Your Supplier is Meeting the Latest Standard?

  • Check the products are correctly labelled and include a QMS licence number.
  • LFI’s EN131 licence number is KM34154
  • Ask your supplier to confirm that their products meet the latest EN131 requirement.
  • For a guide on ladder standards in scaffolding please visit our website page:
  • Ladders Used In Scaffolding ….and click on “Scaffolding Ladder Compliance”

What Has LFI Done to Meet the Standard?

  • All LFI ladders manufactured to EN131 meet the requirements of the latest EN131 standard.
  • Some design improvements have been made to ensure conformance to (and beyond) the requirements of the more rigorous strength test.
  • E.g.  The 4m Tuffsteel ladder is now manufactured with a larger stile section - see image.
  • Double check that other ladder suppliers are making the necessary changes
